An Atlanta police officer was recently charged with DUI while off duty. J.F. was pulled over by another police officer around 3:00 in the morning. He was driving a sports car at 128 mph in a 55 mph zone according to the arresting officer's report. The report stated that J.F. showed his police ID and immediately apologized for speeding as soon as the officer walked up to him. The officer noted that J.F. had glassy eyes, mumbled speech and had the smell of alcohol on his breath. He admitted to having had alcohol throughout the day previous to driving and then was asked to do a field sobriety test. The officer noted that J.F. stumbled and could not hold a straight line during the "walk and turn" test. A field breathalyzer test also showed positive for alcohol. J.F. was then taken into custody and did another "official" breathalyzer test at the station which showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .142, nearly twice the legal limit of .08. J.F. was placed on administrative duty after his arrest while an investigation into the incident takes place. He faces serious charges including reckless driving, excessive speeding and DUI. If convicted of the charges he could receive imprisonment, expensive fines, driver's license suspension, community service and more. He could also face a reprimand or other action by the Atlanta Police Department.
