An 18-year-old girl, N.S., was taken into custody recently after being released from the hospital. She had been treated for minor injuries suffered in a single vehicle accident that claimed the life of her friend, 17-year-old J.Q. Residents called police around midnight on a Friday night after hearing a "loud crash" that seemed to come from the direction of a nearby construction site. Police arrived to find a late model compact sedan overturned at the site. Passers-by had seen a girl covered in mud and bleeding walking near the crash and had stopped to help. The girl directed them to the flipped over car where a second teen was reportedly found unconscious and hanging out of the front passenger window. She had been cut out of the seat belt and was lying near the scene when officers arrived. Police began performing CPR after being unable to find a pulse. Weather conditions reportedly prevented a LifeFlight helicopter from being called to the crash scene. Emergency Medical Services arrived and took over resuscitation efforts but to no avail and the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. N.S., the driver, reportedly told officers that the two had been at a graduation party. Speak with a DWI defense lawyer right away after being arrested or charged for any alleged DWI offense.

She was charged with second degree intoxication manslaughter, a serious felony offense, based on police evidence from the scene and blood tests done at the hospital. She is being held in jail on $50,000 bond. If convicted of the full charges against her, N.S. could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and charged as much as $10,000 in fines.
