Kansas Police Arrest Suspect With History of DUI Offense
A fifty-year old defendant in Kansas could be facing serious time in prison without the help of an experienced DUI defense attorney on his side. After allegedly returning to the scene of a crime, a driver was arrested and charged with what would be a fifteenth DUI offense, on top of other crimes.
According to the initial reports released by law enforcement officers, the evidence indicates that the suspect was driving while under the influence of alcohol on Monday evening as he fled police, leading him to crash his vehicle. Officers claim that they initially arrived at the scene due to an anonymous phone call alerting them to an armed disturbance at 103rd Street and Antioch Road. The tip alleged that one man, the suspect, was threatening another with a bladed weapon.
Defendant Flees From Police On Highway Before Losing Control Of Car
As the night unfolded, says the police report, the defendant returned to the scene of the confrontation, this time behind the wheel of a 1998 Ford Taurus. When he witnessed officers at the scene, he fled in the car and merged onto U.S. 69, where city police lost track of him.
Law enforcement officials with the Kansas Highway Patrol picked up his trail, following him until he crashed the vehicle attempting to exit. The Taurus rolled over onto its back after colliding with a sign. He was taken to a hospital close by for treatment, but police say his injuries were minor.
In addition to charges of fleeing from an officer and driving on a revoked license, the defendant stands accused of what reports indicate is at least his fifteenth DUI. He has been convicted of the crime multiple times in both Kansas and Missouri. He can likely expect a lengthy prison sentence if found guilty of these charges.
