53-year-old K.K. was arrested for the 10th time on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and recently received a hefty sentence after negotiating a plea deal. The arrest occurred about a year ago when the man was driving a dually pickup just south of Houston on the Texas 105. A sheriff's deputy observed the vehicle veer over the center line separating the two traffic directions and then continue down the wrong side of the road. The deputy was able to catch up to the pickup truck and make a traffic stop before any collisions occurred. K.K. was taken into custody and later charged with DWI. Reports do not specify what tests were done to determine intoxication or what the man's blood alcohol concentration was at the time. Make sure you have the help of a skilled criminal defense lawyer immediately if you have been arrested for DWI or DUI and have prior convictions on your record.
Investigators Discover Nine Prior DWI Convictions
Upon booking K.K. for DWI charges it was found that he had several other drunk driving convictions in Texas. Investigators say they also found additional convictions in Tennessee and Florida where he allegedly used an alias. The alias prevented the other arrests from showing up on his Texas arrest record. His first DWI arrest occurred in 1984, second in 1987 and he was sentenced to prison for a third DWI conviction (he served three years) in 1993. After serving his three years behind bars he moved to Tennessee where he was arrested again several months later (1996). Records show five additional arrests in 1996 and 2011 before the more recent arrest in 2012. Once all the prior arrests and convictions were compiled K.K. was charged with a serious felony DWI offense. He faced the possibility of 25 years to life in prison if he was convicted of the charges against him after his trial. K.K.'s trial was scheduled to begin recently but a plea agreement was reached just beforehand. The agreement stipulated a 30-year state prison sentence with the possibility of parole after serving seven and a half years.
