Police Slap Father And Son With DUI Charges After Accident

Chicago Duo Hospitalized After Both Men Lose Control Of Motorcycles

After spinning out of control and crashing their motorbikes, causing injury to both riders, a father and his son are facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. According to Chicago police, the two have sustained serious injury as a result of the incident.

Reports filed by law enforcement officials indicate that the accident took place on Saturday, May 26, in the afternoon. The two men were riding north on Lake Shore Drive when they lost control of their vehicles, for reasons that investigators have not yet determined. At approximately 3:43 p.m. the father, aged 52, began to swerve violently, flying from his Harley Davidson. The man sustained several injuries to the head and back as he went sprawling to the street. His bike crashed into a taxicab that was waiting at a red light nearby.

The son, 25, was similarly wounded when he crashed his motorcycle into a concrete wall. The impact flung him over the wall, sending him into the grass near the jogging path that travels alongside the road. The younger party suffered serious wounds to one of his legs in the accident.

DUI Charges Levied Against Wounded Pair

In the aftermath of the accident, emergency response personnel rushed the young man and his father to nearby Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. They have been listed at critical condition by medical staff, due to the severity of their injuries. Police learned soon after their admission to the hospital that both men were intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The men are scheduled for a hearing at a traffic court on June 26^th. The father is charged with a DUI offense, as is his son. In addition, the younger man is charged with DUI with blood alcohol content over .08 percent.
