The driver of beer truck was arrested on suspicion of
DUI after the truck overturned on a Colorado freeway off ramp, blocking multiple ramp lanes for several hours. No one was injured.
Bobby Dodge, 56, a private contractor, was apparently drunk as he transported beer from the Coors brewery on Interstate 70 in Wheat Ridge. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m.
According Wheat Ridge police spokeswoman Lisa Stigall, alcohol and speed are both likely factors in the accident.
"There is a really sharp curve at the top of the ramp," said Stigall. "We've had people take it too fast and hit the wall."
Dodge was not hurt and no beer was lost or spilled in the accident. However, the off ramp was closed until midnight.
In Colorado, it is illegal to drive or operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. If convicted of
DUI charges, Dodge's driver's license is likely to be suspended or revoked and he will be required to pay some sort of fine. He may also be required to serve time in jail.
