An Arizona Diamondback television broadcaster was arrested last week for the second time in less than two years for DUI. The broadcaster was pulled over by a Scottsdale policeman on the evening of August 23rd for driving with an expired car registration. After talking to the police officer and undergoing field sobriety tests, he was arrested based on probable cause of driving while under the influence. The broadcaster, MG, is a former first baseman for the Chicago Cubs and the Diamondbacks. He was earlier arrested in May of 2011, when pulled over for making an illegal turn. In that incident, his blood alcohol concentration as measured on a breathalyzer test exceeded the state limit of .08 percent. He was convicted and subjected to a license suspension.
Since the recent arrest, the broadcaster has requested an indefinite leave of absence from his job as a color broadcaster for the Diamondbacks. A second DUI conviction of this kind could result in a base fine of $500, surcharges of up to $410, a prison construction assessment of $1,250, an Arizona Extra DUI assessment of $1,250, jail time of 30 to 90 days, community restitution of 30 days or more, a license suspension of one year, an alcohol education and / or treatment program, and the installation of a court-ordered ignition interlock device.
