2 Killed + 2 Hurt = 7 Year Sentence

Camille Spink, in court twice before on charges stemming from a DUI-fueled deadly car crash, has been sentenced to seven years in prison, as reported by the Herald Net from Everett, Washington.

Frank Blair, the father of Sheena Blair, 24, that was killed by Spink, said in the Snohomish County courtroom, "We weren't sure what to expect today.  Seeing her led away was the first time that we could see some accountability for the crimes she committed. It closed that door for us."

Along with Sheena Blair, also killed in the February 26 crash was her companion, Martin "Tony" Ramirez, 19.  Two others at the scene, 18 year-olds Reyna and Marco Ortiz, survived but suffered several serious injuries, including many broken bones.

After having three glasses of wine at a friend's house, Spink, 28, decided she would drive to a bar in north Everett.  She got behind the wheel of her sport vehicle, with a passenger, and proceeded to maneuver her vehicle the wrong way on Broadway.

It was there that she drove directly into Blair's car.

Ramirez, traveling in the back seat, died at the scene.  Blair, though rushed to a hospital, died only one hour after Ramirez.

Spink and her passenger were uninjured.

Spink's alcohol level - tested hours after the crash - proved to be double the legal limit.  Court documents from the scene state that she was seen stumbling and swaying, her breath smelled of alcohol and she admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day.

In November Spink pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide and two of vehicular assault - facing up to 8 ½ years in prison - she was freed until sentenced.  Spink being free, while others had lost their lives due to her actions, angered the families of the deceased.

Relatives told Superior Court Judge Larry McKeeman that they were devastated by their losses.  The Ramirez family forwent Christmas instead of celebrating without Tony and has been taking their anger out on each other.

The two mothers of Blair and Ramirez held hands as they took their turn to speak to the judge about what Spink did to their families. Blair was to graduate soon from college with a degree in criminal justice and Ramirez was the father of two young boys.

Gloria Tellez, Ramirez's mother said, "All we have are our memories, photographs and a grave site to visit.  All I want is justice to be served."

Due to a plea agreement, prosecutor Tobin Darrow suggested a 6 ½ year sentence.

Spink, with no previous criminal history and taking responsibility for her actions, pleaded guilty to all charges.

She also addressed the family to apologize and offered to meet with them.  Spink told the families in the courtroom that she often thought of them and wanted to do something to help ease what she has put them through.

Spink said, "I can't imagine all the pain you're going through."  Her husband, Brent, also plead with the judge for leniency.  He commended his wife as loving, and a caring mother to their young son.

McKeeman said that there is "nothing this court can do to undo what Ms. Spink has done." And with that, added 7 more months to Darrow's suggested 6 ½.
