Waits and Hilton Charged with DUI, Drug Possession

Once again Paris Hilton is in the news for drug possession, but this time, her current boyfriend, Cy Waits, was also arrested for a DUI.

As reported by Yahoo News, New York Daily News and Las Vegas Late, Cy Waits was arrested for DUI charges and Hilton for possession of illegal substances shortly before midnight in Las Vegas on August 27.

Their names had just been coupled together 24 hours earlier in headline news, and Hilton's Twitter account, as Waits brandished a gun when a robber broke into Hilton's Los Angeles home.

This latest news began when Waits was driving Hilton in a Cadillac Escalade on the Las Vegas Strip, and a police officer patrolling on his motorcycle noticed a suspicious odor coming from the vehicle.  Believing it to be marijuana he pulled the car over at 11:22 p.m.  During the check a bag of cocaine, the size of which led to the conclusion that it was for personal use, fell out of Hilton's handbag.

Sergeant John Sheahan reported that Hilton was reaching for a lip balm when "a bindle of cocaine in a plastic bag came out of her purse." The amount of both the cocaine and of the marijuana that was confiscated was not released to the press.

Hilton, 29, facing felony cocaine possession, and may get probation if convicted. If she again violates probation she could be punished with one to four years in Nevada state prison.

Though authorities in South Africa dropped marijuana possession charges earlier this summer against Hilton, this makes it her second time to be arrested on drug possession for the year.  In 2007 she pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving and was sentenced to 45 days in jail.

Cy Waits, 34, is facing up to one year in jail for his misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  Police reports state that he owns the 2009 Cadillac that he was driving before the arrest.

Clark County jail handcuffed, fingerprinted, photographed and booked both Waits and  Hilton late Friday night.  Hilton was released without any bail at approximately 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

Richard Schoenfeld, Waits lawyer, said that Waits was released Saturday afternoon after posting $2000 bail.  Schoenfeld also said that he was "troubled by the circumstances" surrounding his client's arrest, but refused to back up his statement with specifics, "As the case proceeds, a lot of facts are going to come to light that will ultimately lead to exoneration."

Waits, head of  nightclub operations for Wynn and Encore properties, was reportedly fired by Wynn the next day as Wynn adheres to a strict zero tolerance policy.

Cy Waits, and his twin brother Jesse, were the managing partners at more than one Las Vegas property.  Besides the Tryst Nightclub inside Wynn Las Vegas, they also managed Drai's after hours club in Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon, and XS The Nightclub in Wynn's Encore resort.
