Man Arrested for DUI after Accident

In Santa Maria, police say that a man was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI after he was involved in an accident on Thursday. The California Highway Patrol said that the accident took place on Bonita School Road, 1.6 miles north of Highway 166.

Police report that the two vehicle collision occurred at 7:30 PM when a 1997 Dodge driven by 33-year-old Silvano Sanchez was traveling southbound and suddenly entered the northbound lane.  The vehicle then crashed with the 2003 Dodge driven by 48-year-old David Thompson.

Both of the individuals involved in the accident had to be taken to Marian Medical Center for treatment.

Sanchez complained of chest pain suffered a cut to the head.  Police have reason to believe that he was under the influence.
