Recently, it was announced that the Chula Vista Police Department had been given a $500,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. The grant is meant to crack down on driving under the influence offenses in the city and will be used to conduct DUI checkpoints, sweeps, stings, and saturation patrols.
According to the police department, every DUI checkpoint costs about $7,000 to conduct, which is why the new grant will be so helpful. Chief David Bejarano said, "There is no higher calling for a police officer than to save lives and limit destruction in our community."
From October 2010 until next September, the grant will be used to pay for: 10 DUI checkpoints, 10 saturation patrols, 6 warrant sweeps, 4 court stings, and 12 minor in possession operations.
If you were charged with DUI, know that it is important to hire a DUI lawyer that can help you contest your criminal charges.
