Tenth DUI Results in Five-Year Sentence

In Montana, a man has been convicted of his 10th DUI. As a result of this conviction, he has been sentenced to five years with the Department of Corrections. Matthew L. Gram was told by the judge that the sentence "is not consistent with an offender like you." Gram had previously undergone alcohol-abuse treatment while in custody, so state statute only allows up to a five-year sentence. Gram pleaded no contest to the DUI charge in exchange for the state dropping a persistent felony offender charge.
