Another Firefighter Arrested for DUI in Pittsburg

According to Pittsburg police, another captain with the Pittsburg fire bureau was recently arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of drugs.  Police say the arrest took place on the North Side, bringing the total drug and alcohol arrests to 4 firefighters.

The most recent arrest involves Captain Frank R. Becker, who was suspended without pay after the incident.  Becker is a 16 year veteran with the fire bureau.

Police say that they pulled over Captain Becker on December 15th near the corner of Hemlock and Boyle streets.  He was driving a 2002 Honda Accord when he drove past a stop sign.  Officer Paul Abel pulled him over and found that the compact disc in Captain Becker's car had cocaine residue.  He asked Captain Becker to submit to a breath tests and his result was 0.163.  The state's legal limit is 0.08.

On May 28th, Captain Becker was arrested after he hit a telephone pole in Robinson Township.  At this time, he is facing a non-jury trial later this month for charges of driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and careless driving.

When asked about the firefighters' behaviors, Chief Jones said, "I'm very upset about the whole situation, with all of our firefighters who have been in these predicaments."  He added, "They've created a black eye for the bureau."
