Oilers Goaltender Facing DUI Charges

In Scottsdale, Arizona, it is reported that Nikolai Khabibulin of the Edmonton Oilers is facing charges for driving under the influence (DUI).  The goaltender is also facing charges for speeding.

According to authorities in Scottsdale, Khabibulin was driving a Ferrari when he was pulled over by police for driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.  When police stopped Khabibulin, they said that they smelled alcohol on the hockey player.  He was arrested after he failed field sobriety tests.  Later, he was booked into jail on charges of DUI and speeding.

Reporters have tried to contact Khabibulin's agent, Jay Grossman, but he has not returned any calls.

As a 7-2-9 record holder, Khabibulin signed a four year contract with the Oilers that is worth $15 million.  The contract was signed last summer.  He is a four-time NHL All-Star and he also helped the Lightning win the Stanley Cup back in 2004.

If Khabibulin is found guilty, he may be sentenced with fines, probation and DUI School.
