California Parents may be charged for Involvement in Underage DUI Incident

In Orinda, California, it is being reported that the parents of a teenager who was caught driving under the influence (DUI) may be subjected to criminal charges, also.  The parents are facing criminal charges because they tried to cover up their child's DUI accident and party, where alcohol was consumed.

According to reports, seven high school students from Miramonte High School held a party where they consumed alcohol.  The night the party was held, police arrived and broke up the event at midnight.  However, the parents of the child hosting the party allegedly would not allow police to investigate the incident fully.

8 citations were issued by police and 2 of the teenagers were placed under arrest for suspicion of public drunkenness.  Two other party goers were arrested for suspicion of DWI and one teen was arrested for possession of marijuana.  After their arrests, the teenagers were picked up by their parents from a local police station.

One of the teenagers was charged with driving under the influence after hitting a parked car and a telephone pole while trying to leave the party.  The teen was also charged with hit and run.  Officers say that instead of helping them, the parents tried to cover up the accident and hurry the teen away from the scene, which is why they are now facing criminal charges.
