In Fairbanks, Alaska, a man recently pled "no contest" to driving under the influence charges. The man, 20 year old David Stepp, was charged with
DUI after operating a forklift after drinking.
Stepp was sentenced to 3 days of jail time and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine. Police say that Stepp took the forklift from his place of employment and tried to free two pickup trucks that were stuck in a ditch. When police arrived at the scene, they saw Stepp operating the forklift. Both trucks remained in the ditch.
Police had Stepp and his friend submit to blood alcohol tests. They say both men's blood alcohol concentrations were well above the state's legal limit.
According to Lt. Matt Soden, driving any type of motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol can lead to DUI charges in Alaska.
