Driving Instructor Convicted for DUI

On April 16, 53 year old Daniel Winsky was convicted for driving under the influence (DUI).  Winsky is a driving instructor and he was arrested for DUI while giving a student driving lessons in 2007.  He was sentenced to 18 months probation and 1 year driver's license suspension.  Winsky must also refrain from using drugs and alcohol and will be subjected to random testing.  Additionally, he was ordered to pay over $2,000 worth of fines.

It is alleged that Winsky was under the influence while sitting in the front seat of a vehicle while he was giving students lessons.  The jury presiding over the case deliberated for one hour before delivering their verdict.  The trial lasted one and a half days.

Police say that although Winsky was not behind the wheel of the vehicle, he was in control of the brakes on the passenger side and had also used the steering wheel during the lesson by reaching over from the passenger side of the car.   Officers said that Wisnky was not arrested at the scene, but later cited for DUI after police received a report from a store clerk that Winsky came into the store reeking of alcohol and had gotten into an Anthony's Auto School car.
