About Underage DUI Charges and Penalties
California strictly enforces a zero tolerance policy when it comes to those accused of drinking and driving under the age of 21. A driver under 21 years old can be charged with underage DUI for having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of just 0.01 percent as opposed to the 0.08 percent limit for those of legal drinking age. This can mean that you may be arrested even if you showed no indications of actually being impaired by alcohol. Penalties include an automatic driver's license suspension for one year, fines and various requirements for getting your license back after the suspension. If there were other circumstances involves such as having a BAC of 0.08 percent or greater, injury accidents, fatalities or others then that driver will be facing serious felony DUI charges. Felony DUI, DUI involving injury and vehicular manslaughter have penalties which include thousands in fines and at least one year in prison. Other penalties may be assessed as well.
