An Everett man with a prior driving under the influence conviction entered a plea of "guilty" at his recent Superior Court hearing. The 28-year-old man has been charged with several serious felony offenses after a fatal accident involving two pedestrians and a person on a bicycle. The accident happened in early June last year when reports state that the defendant, T.O., drank at least 10 shots of vodka and nearly 50 ounces of beer. Staff at one of the bars he had visited that day had tried to get the man to take a cab instead of driving but he declined and was somehow allowed to drive away in his vehicle. Other witnesses came forward that reported seeing T.O. behind the wheel with a single passenger and sideswiping parked vehicles, nearly causing a head-on collision as he drifted into oncoming traffic lanes and allegedly had trouble navigating the drive-through lane at a fast food restaurant. Then he struck three people walking and biking along the shoulder of the road he was driving on. He had stopped at first and witnesses say that the passenger got out, saw the scene, got back in the car and the vehicle sped away. One of the pedestrians, 18-year-old S.S., suffered a severe head injury and several broken bones. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other pedestrian and the bicyclist also suffered multiple broken bones and were rushed to a local hospital and survived. Police say they were able to locate the car and its driver thanks to a trail of engine fluid and bits of broken car parts. Charged with a DUI offense? BAC Test Results Shows Driver was Three Times over the Limit
Police followed a trail including the bumper (with license plate) of a car and other debris to T.O.'s vehicle which was found crashed into a tree. T.O. was found nearby and arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide while intoxicated. Test results stated that his blood alcohol concentration was 0.24 percent. He faces the possibility of up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony charges of vehicular assault, vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
