Driver Sentenced in Fatal Drunk Driving Accident

A 54-year-old man was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with several felony and misdemeanor charges for a deadly car crash that occurred last year. The man, C.R., had been driving his minivan on Route 33 around 9:00 in the evening when he crashed into a sedan carrying three people. The impact sent the car careening into a bridge abutment and the 14-year-old girl sitting in the back seat was killed. The girl's father and his fiancée received serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital. The teenage girl was pronounced dead at the scene. C.R. was found to have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.228%. This BAC is nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08%. Crash investigators determined that there had to have been a 30-mph difference between the speeds of the minivan and the sedan in order to result in the severe impact. C.R. was charged with two misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle under the influence, two fourth degree felony counts of vehicular assault and a second degree felony of aggravated vehicular homicide. The judge in the case revoked C.R.'s driver's license for life in addition to his 10-year prison sentence.
