J.W., 30 years old, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated. The man is a legislative deputy working for the Los Angeles City Council. He was taken into custody after being selected to perform a sobriety test at a Downtown DUI checkpoint on a recent weekend night. Police reports state that J.W. performed a breathalyzer test which gave a 0.15 percent blood alcohol concentration (BAC) result. As this BAC is nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, J.W. could be facing significantly greater DUI charges. He was taken into custody by police at the checkpoint and booked into the LA county jail. He was released the next day and awaited formal charges. The LA County District Attorney's Office filed charges against J.W. the following week—he has been charged with one count of driving with a 0.08 or higher blood alcohol level. J.W.'s arraignment was scheduled for October 18th according to court records but reports do not indicated if the arraignment took place as scheduled or if other arrangements were made. Talk to a skilled DUI defense lawyer today if you have been arrested or charged with any drunk driving or DUI of drugs charge. It is crucial that you act quickly to avoid harsh penalties!
Driving under the influence charges can mean jail time, fines and loss of your driver's license for even a first time offense. A DUI arrest means you will have two actions to contend with: the administrative hearing with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV hearings) and criminal proceedings with the city or county. When an individual is accused of having a BAC significantly higher than the legal limit or if there are other circumstances involved such as the presence of minors, illegal drugs or an injury accident, the charges can be significantly increased. Do not face a DUI charge on your own!
