DUI arrests come in many interesting forms. As an example, many people may not have considered the fact that they can be arrested for DUI while driving "any" type of motorized vehicle. Although majorities of the time, DUI arrests involve regular transportation vehicles, the following examples will give you an idea as to how some rather unusual DUI arrests do occur involving "other" types of vehicles.
- A man was arrested for DUI and for being "asleep at the wheel." In this case, the wheel referred to belonged to a wheelchair. The man was on his way to a friend's house nine miles away and was arrested for sleeping on the highway exit ramp in his motorized wheelchair. He registered a blood alcohol content reading of 0.301 and was charged with DUI.
- A woman decided to visit a Taco Bell for a late night snack and passed out in her car while waiting in the drive through lane. Police found several open cases of beer in the vehicle and pills in the car that had not been prescribed to any of the passengers. The woman driver and her occupants were all arrested.
- A 40-year-old man was arrested for DUI while driving a pink motorized toy Barbie car at night. He was going at the vehicle's top speed of four miles per hour. He told the police that he had been customizing the car while downing a few drinks at the same time and didn't realize how many he'd drunk prior to the journey. He was doing the test drive, showing it off to a friend, when police stopped him; his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
