Dallas Police Officer A.C., a 15-year veteran, was recently placed on administrative leave while an incident involving a DWI charge is investigated. The 38-year-old officer was off duty when he was involved in a car accident. The crash occurred at an intersection of Highway 276 and Highway 205 in Rockwall at about 6:18 in the evening. Local police arrived at the scene and alleged that A.C. had been consuming alcohol and was intoxicated while driving. Further details of the accident were unavailable but police obtained a warrant for a blood sample—reports do not indicate whether or not a breathalyzer test was performed or if A.C. refused to take one. The results of the test are pended. A.C. was booked into jail on suspicion of drunk driving and was released the following day after posting $500 bail. The Dallas Police Department placed A.C. on administrative leave and informed that an internal affairs investigation would be conducted.
Consult with a criminal defense lawyer skilled in handling DUI cases right away after being accused of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you have been arrested after allegedly failing a field sobriety test, breathalyzer test or blood test then you are facing the possibility of serious penalties. Field sobriety tests can be highly subjective and these physical coordination tests can be "failed" for reasons having nothing to do with intoxication—nervousness, a medical condition or other circumstances can cause an individual to have trouble properly doing the tests. An incorrectly calibrated or poorly maintained breathalyzer machine may give a false blood alcohol concentration reading. Blood test samples can become contaminated or a lab technician may make a mistake. Make sure everything possible is being done on your behalf to ensure such mistakes do not result in unfair charges being placed against you!
