Troubled Teen Responsible for Fatal DUI Accident

Carly Ruosso did not have an easy life. The teen was mauled by a pit bull at the age of 15, leaving her with marked skin all over her face. She often had nightmares about the attack, and couldn’t sleep at night as she remembered the terrifying moments that she fell prey to a violent animal. The attack resulted in hundreds of stiches all over Ruosso’s face and head. The attack was so horrific that the mayor at the time asked for a city ordinance that would ban all unpredictable and lethal pit bulls. Unfortunately, this ordinance was never enacted.
Ruosso was mocked because of her new face, and eventually switched schools. At her new school, her grades plummeted. Psychologists say that she hallucinated on a regular basis, and was suicidal. To cope with the trauma from her accident, Ruosso had started up a dangerous habit. She was slowly becoming addicted to marijuana, and using the drug to escape reality for a short amount of time. She was high on the substance when she got in her car and crashed into a family in Highland Park. The 5-year-old little girl in the family was killed in the accident, and the two brothers and mother were rushed to the hospital with injuries. Russo was jailed briefly after the accident, and then released on bond with a curfew and an agreement not to drive or smoke marijuana.
Court records show that Ruosso has had an ongoing struggle with drug addiction, and at one point was compelled to participate in a 12-step rehab program after she was caught with marijuana. While Ruosso has a difficult past, the family who lost their 5-year-old sister and daughter are not as sympathetic to her plight. They say that anything in her background doesn’t excuse or explain what happened. When the case is taken to court, Ruosso’s lawyer will doubtless use her difficult past in order to explain her addiction to marijuana and her reason for driving while intoxicated. If the background of your accident helps to explain your choices, then talk to a criminal defense lawyer today and get the representation you need in court!
