DUI Suspect Tried to Hide in Car Wash

If you are suspected of a DUI, then the police can pull you over and issue the proper field sobriety tests and breath and blood tests. In some states, the police must have a probable cause to pull you over. This means that they need to prove that you were committing another traffic violation before they can pull you over. If you live in a state where you can be pulled over for suspected drunk driving without a cause, then they do not need to prove that you were committing a traffic violation. Because inebriated people often aren’t thinking clearly, it is common for them to speed, swerve, or drive recklessly on the road.

After you have been pulled over, you cannot flee from the police officer until he or she has finished conducting an inspection. If you do try to leave the scene, you can be charged for evading a police officer. This can be a serious crime. A man in Florida recently was charged with eluding a police officer and a DUI when he tried to hide in a car wash in order to avoid being arrested.

According to the SunSentinel, the young man lost control of his 2000 Ford Focus and struck a Mitsubishi that was stopped at a traffic light. The driver fled the scene of the accident without exchanging information. A deputy who was nearby saw the whole exchange, and followed the driver. He deactivated his lights and sirens because he worried that it would cause the suspect to drive recklessly. Eventually, the suspect ducked into a car wash, but the police were able to wait until he emerged on the other side. If you have been charged with eluding a police officer or driving under the influence, then contact a criminal defense attorney who specializes in DUI cases to help you.
