Field Sobriety Tests Are Not 100% Accurate

If you were stopped by law enforcement because they believed that you were driving under the influence (DUI), chances are that you were asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests (FSTs). When it is believed that people are under the influence of drugs or alcohol while operating motor vehicles officers have the right to ask them to perform these coordination-based tests. These tests are administered so police can judge whether or not people are intoxicated.

People can "fail" the field sobriety tests for numerous reasons. For example, if the weather is bad and people are told to do the heel-to-toe test and slip, officers may say they failed when in reality they simply made a mistake due to third party circumstances. Due to the fact that field sobriety tests are so subjective, people arrested for drunk driving should speak with a DUI attorney about contesting their test results. In some cases, contests FSTs results can lead to the reduction or dismissal of peoples' criminal charges.
