DUI Checkpoint Announced in San Diego
Posted on Sep 20, 2011 1:45pm PDT
Although the San Diego Police Department announced that they will hold a checkpoint in September 16th, they are keeping the location a secret. By alerting the public to their presence, the police department hopes to cut down on
DUI arrests as the summer draws to a close.
The checkpoint will be held somewhere within the city limits of San Diego from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. These are the hours during which officers find the most drunk drivers hitting roadways, making them a threat not only to themselves, but others as well. While most cars will only be stopped momentarily, those drivers that appear to be intoxicated in any way will be asked to pull over. It is then up to the officer's discretion whether to ask the driver to complete a field sobriety test.
Any drivers that fail the test will be arrested on the spot. In addition to having their license taken, individuals arrested for DUI can expect a variety of criminal punishments, including fines, an increase in insurance rates, DUI classes and even jail time.
