Police Announce Checkpoint for DUI

Police departments across the state of California are conducting regular DUI checkpoints in an attempt to cut down on drunk driving. This week, the Pacific Police Department will hold their own driver's license/DUI checkpoint between 6 p.m. and 12 a.m.

According to a statement issued by the department, officers will only stop those drivers that appear to be intoxicated. The rest will simply show their license, and if they do not appear to be impaired, will be allowed to pass through. Those that show any signs of impairment could be asked to stop and conduct a field sobriety test.

Getting arrested for DUI is no joke in the state of California: you could have your license suspended, pay vehicle storage fees, see an increase in your insurance rates and pay other fees up to $10,000.

Thanks to checkpoints like these, fatalities caused by DUI accidents have decreased by 23% across the state.
