CHP Says DUIs Present Major Threat

According to the California Highway Patrol DUIs continue to represent a significant danger to traffic safety.

In 2009 alone, 210,000 DUI arrests were made in California. Although these individuals are expected to show up in court to be held accountable, a CHP-sponsored task force helps make this process happen. Members of the task force help track down DUI offenders that have warrants out for their arrest.

According to Office Rebecca Myers, "These DUI warrants target individuals who did not complete the necessary actions when charged with a DUI such as failing to appear before a judge or violating probation." She went on to add that anyone who has an outstanding warrant against them are free to surrender themselves, on their own terms, rather than be arrested.

This task force and others are funded in part by a grant provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
