Checkpoint Nets 10 Arrests

A traffic safety checkpoint conducted by the Orange County Sheriff's Department netted officers 10 citations along with two drunk-driving arrests.
Police reports show that the checkpoint, held at West Escalonas and North El Camino Real, was conducted last Friday night. Checkpoints like this one are funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. While officers at the checkpoint were targeting drivers operating their vehicles under the influence, they were also searching for individuals driving without licenses or insurance.
According to Sgt. Mark Daigle, "The main objective is to emphasize safety." Cars were stopped randomly at the checkpoint, and any drivers showing signs of intoxication were asked to complete field sobriety tests on the spot. Even though officers set up the checkpoint at a fairly busy intersection, they stated that it was a slow night with fewer-than-expected cars passing through.
