Threat to Self + Disregard of Others = Increased DUI Bail

A Seattle man, facing murder charges stemming from DUI, was brought back into police custody as his bail was raised from $50,000 to $1 million, as reported by the Komo News.

P.S.R. is accused of killing Google software developer, S.L., in a car crash while under the influence of alcohol.

P.S.R. was re-arrested, after his bail amount was raised, on July 27.

Per state troopers, P.S.R. crossed the center line at NE 85th and Interstate 405 on July 24.   Once on the other side he slammed into a BMW driven by S.L., killing him.

Toxicology results showed that P.S.R., 56, had a blood-alcohol limit that was .029 percent - more than three times the state's limit.

Witnesses reported that P.S.R. pounded "his chest" when he got out of his car and later answered only "Eh" when told that the driver of the BMW was dead.

P.S.R. was charged with vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving.

Though this is P.S.R.'s first criminal charge per police records, prosecution has asked that his bail be increased due his behavior that exhibited "flagrant disregard for the value of human life, coupled with clear indicators of impairment."

King Count Prosecutor Dan Satterberg said, "The tragic death of (S.L.) was not an accident.  It was the predictable result of aggressive driving under extreme intoxication."

Satterberg stated that the accused readily admitted to arresting officers that he had "way too much" alcohol before the accident.  P.S.R. also told officers: "I can't go to prison. Just can't do it. I'll kill somebody again.   Please shoot me right here."

Satterberg claimed that P.S.R.'s first statement showed his lack of regard for human life, and his second showed that he is a harm to himself.

The victim, S.L., was out running a family errand at the time of the crash.  Family members have reported their devastation at the sudden tragedy.

S.L.'s sister said, "It's quite shocking that a beautiful life can be taken in an instant."

S. L.'s mother reported on the feelings of one of S.L.'s young children: "Last night, just before (S.L.'s daughter) went to bed, she said, 'I have no daddy. My daddy's gone,' I said, 'The clouds are up there. Daddy's watching you.'"

S.L. has two young children, a boy and a girl, aged 5 and 7, he also leaves behind a wife.   A trust fund has been established for the children at Chase bank.

His son, who was at home playing with a friend at the time of the accident, originally had planned to go on the errand with his father.

S.L.'s mother also had some words for the defendant, "I would love to be put in a room with him.  I won't tell you on camera what I would do to him, but he wouldn't be walking."

P.S.R.'s arraignment is scheduled for August 9.
