Student Charged with DUI Accident

When a foreign exchange student came to the states earlier this year, he would never have guessed the trouble he could get himself into.
The 21-year-old student was driving in California when he caused a fatal DUI accident in March. After finishing their exhaustive investigation into the accident, a Los Angeles County prosecutor charged him with felony DUI and causing serious bodily injury to his passenger, a 21-year-old female foreign exchange student. He had been in the country for just four months when he crashed his vehicle and killed his friend.
A blood exam showed that his blood-alcohol content was 0.10 at the time of the crash, which is above the state limit of 0.08. He showed serious remorse and regret for the incident last week when he pleaded guilty to all the charges against him.
Since the young man had been a law-abiding citizen before the incident, the judge was lenient in giving him the lowest jail sentence possible under the state's recognized list of DUI penalties.
