DUI Checkpoint Scheduled in California

Although you should always be careful not to drink and drive, summer is the season for extra DUI checkpoints in California.

A checkpoint is scheduled for July 30th to be conducted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol. Checkpoints like this one are designed to cut down on drunk driving altogether and help patrols that are already on the roadways attend to other calls.

Last month, a checkpoint conducted as part of the Arrive Alive Campaign screened 273 cars in one night. Of those screened, 20 drivers were given field sobriety tests and two were arrested on the spot.

Even if you do not actually make it through the checkpoint, you can be arrested for trying to evade one. Two such drivers attempted this maneuver last month.  One was not under the influence, but the other driver was.  He was placed under arrest and is now facing multiple charges.

If you've been arrested for DUI, it is important that you hire a DUI attorney as soon as possible if you hope to fight your charges.
