After pleading guilty to his role in a fatal DUI crash, one man will now spend up to 17 years in prison.
Thomas M. Fitzgerald, 56, pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter last week. Not only was his driver's license revoked for life, but he was also sentenced to 17 years behind bars. According to police reports Fitzgerald slammed his Ford Sport Trac into a Honda Accord after failing to stop at an intersection. This caused a third vehicle to become involved in the accident, causing multiple injuries all around. However, it took the life of 52-year-old James E. Kiewra, who was a passenger in the Accord.
Tests conducted at the scene revealed that Fitzgerald had a blood-alcohol content of 0.24 percent, well above the accepted state limit of 0.08.
