27 Year Old Found Guilty of Vehicular Manslaughter

A jury found Leonel Cortez-Cruz, 27, guilty of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated last week in California. He was also found guilty of  different charges, of felony hit and run as well as DUI causing death or injury , on November 24. Cortez-Cruz killed a man on Etiwanda and Limonite avenues in Mira Loma.

The accident occurred on March 2, 2008 when Cortez-Cruz crashed his 2004 Nissan Altima into the 1990 Dodge Shadow driven by 33-year-old Cesar Pedrosa Ramos. Since Ramos was stopped at a red light, the force pushed his car into a 2005 Dodge Ram before going into the intersection. At that point the vehicle was hit again by a 2003 Toyota Matrix.

Even though Ramos was rushed to a local hospital he died shortly after.

Attempting to avoid capture, Cortez-Cruz ditched his vehicle and went into a nearby Auto Zone, pretending to be store staff and helping customers.
