DUI Checkpoint Yields 16 Arrests

This Saturday night, the State patrol and Colorado Springs Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint. They report that the checkpoint was quite successful as they were able to catch more than a dozen drivers who were driving under the influence.

The checkpoint was held in the southbound lanes of the 2700 block of N. Academy Blvd. for four hours on Saturday evening. Officers say that they checked 1176 drivers, 33 of which were asked to perform field sobriety tests for driving under the influence. As a result of the stops, 16 individuals were placed under arrest for DUI.

Additionally, police say that seven other citations were issued for DUI related charges. One person was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and another was cited for having an open alcohol container.

The recent checkpoint was part of the 100 Days of Heat Campaign.
