Statewide DUI Crackdown to Occur in Colorado

In Colorado, the State Patrol plans to have 51 law enforcement agencies conducting the state's first Thanksgiving DUI crackdown.  Throughout the state, law enforcement agencies will be on the lookout for people who are driving under the influence.  The crackdown, referred to as "Heat Is On", will begin on Tuesday, November 24th an end Monday, November 30th.

According to local police, this crackdown is the first of three DUI enforcement periods that are to occur between now and New Year's Eve.  Last year, the state reported that seven people were killed during DUI accidents in Colorado over Thanksgiving week.  This figure represented one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities during that time period last year.

Col. James Wolfinbarger, chief of the Colorado State Patrol said that, "The entire state will have much more to be thankful for this year if we can make it through Thanksgiving week without having t make a single DUI arrest."  He also said, "We encourage everyone to make the right choice this holiday season by not drinking and driving."
