30 People Charged with DUI in Connecticut over Holiday

Hartford, Connecticut - state police in Connecticut report that over Thanksgiving, more than 30 people were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Over the holiday, the state had increased patrol units to crack down on DUI offenders.
Since Friday morning, officers say that 31 drivers were stopped for suspicion of DUI. Extra officers patrolled the Hartford's streets and highways from Wednesday night until Friday morning.
Aside from DUI charges, officers report that they issued citations to 522 people who were caught speeding and 296 people who were not wearing their seatbelts. Additionally, more than 1,100 people were given tickets for moving violations.
According to police, more than 147 accidents occurred in Hartford since Wednesday evening. The car accidents led to 16 people being injured and 2 people being killed.
Hartford troopers say that they will continue to monitor highways and streets throughout the weekend and that there will be many DUI checkpoints in place.
