While people are encouraged to enjoy the Super Bowl this Sunday, it is advisable that they do not drink and drive, especially in the state of Pennsylvania.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, it is expected that police patrol units will be in full-force. They are going to be extremely watchful of the roads both before and after the Super Bowl, and will be ready to make traffic stops for those people they believe are
driving under the influence (DUI). Police agencies in Montgomery County said that, "fans don't let fans drive drunk."
Officials report that during last year's Super Bowl, there were 34 DUI accidents in Pennsylvania. The crashes occurred on Sunday and carried over into Monday until 6 AM.
This year, law enforcement is hoping that anxious fans will avoid drinking and driving at all costs as
DUI accidents are very prevalent during the Super Bowl.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says that in 2007, there were 525 DUI fatalities throughout the state and a staggering total of 1,491 highway deaths. Additionally, they report that the state invests over $2.8 million annually into DUI prevention and enforcement.
