Atlanta Prepares for Labor Day DUI Crackdown

Even though Labor Day is a week away, law enforcement agencies started preparing a statewide "Operation Zero Tolerance" crackdown in Atlanta.
The crackdown became effective on August 21st and is expected to last until Labor Day weekend has concluded. The campaign is running in conjunction with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety's "1--Days of Summer HEAT" campaign. The term "heat" stands for Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic.
Bob Dallas, director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety said that, "The sad fact is one out of three of our fatal highway crashes in Georgia each year is caused by impaired drivers." Dallas also said, "every one of those tragic alcohol-related deaths is completely preventable."
During the crackdown, officers will not issue warnings to impaired drivers, said city officials. However, motorists have been told which days they should watch out for blue lights in Atlanta.
