In Carmichael, a Sacramento woman was sentenced this past Friday to 12 years and 8 months jail time for her involvement in a
DUI (driving under the influence) accident. The
DUI accident, caused by 35 year old Bethann Colyer, led to the death of one person and led to serious injuries for approximately eight other people in December of 2007.
According to the Sacramento County Superior Court records, Colyer pled no contest to gross
vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI in relation to the catastrophic accident that occurred on December 19, 2007. However, it is reported that at the time of her arrest, she has a
blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15%. .08% is the California legal limit.
Additionally, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office is reporting that tests found the presence of hydrocodone.
On December 19th, Bethann Colyer ran a red light around 11:00 P.M. She was driving erratically after leaving Dubs Daily Dose Billiards Darts & More. It was a Carmichael bar that she co-owned at the time. She was driving a Chevrolet and speeding (driving 50-55 mph in a 35 mph zone). Shortly after speeding through the red light, Colyer crashed into a CRV that was carrying nine young victims, including 18 year old Scott Couch, who died at the scene of the crime.
