Delaware Woman with Blood Alcohol Three Times the Legal Limit Charged with DUI

In Newcastle, Delaware, a 36 year old woman was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after a paramedic spotted the woman erratically swerving her car while driving.

The woman, Angela Brown, was charged with DUI and other DUI related offenses after law enforcement performed a blood alcohol test.  According to a county police spokesman, Brown's blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 3 times the legal limit.

The DUI incident occurred around 11:00 P.M. this past Saturday.  At that time, county paramedic, Lt. Mark Allston, began to follow Brown's car after he noticed her strange driving behaviors.  He claims that Brown was speeding and swerving across several highway lanes.  At one point, she was even driving in the wrong direction on a one-way road.  Soon after, the paramedic turned on the emergency lights on his marked vehicle to let other drivers know he had informed police of Brown's direction of travel.  Police officers were then able to stop Brown on Moores Lane.

After Brown was apprehended by police, she was taken to a local hospital where she received treatment due to her excessively high blood alcohol level.

EMT Chief Lawrence Tan released a statement that said Allston's actions prevented the DUI offender from endangering her life as well as the lives of pedestrians.

"This is another example of how emergency medical services personnel can work with law enforcement to prevent incidents that could result in serious injuries," Tan said.
