On November 26th, a 15 year old girl from Park City, Illinois was arrested for
driving under the influence. The Winthrop Harbor police department reports that the teenage girl was on her way to pick up her brother from a bar because he was too inebriated to drive himself.
The girl was stopped by police after they noticed that she was speeding and driving rather erratically. Once stopped by police, the girl consented to a
breath alcohol test and her blood alcohol level registered at .13%. She was arrested for DUI and cited for not having a driver's license, illegal transportation of alcohol and consumption of alcohol by a minor.
The girl's 23 year old brother, Derrick G. McDermott, was also charged with criminal offenses. McDermott was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, permitting an unlicensed person to drive intoxicated and illegal transportation of alcohol.
When the police asked the girl where she was coming from, she claimed she was coming from Waukegan. However, she actually drove to Illinois from Wisconsin. Police are not sure how the girl gained access to alcohol or if she was under adult supervision while consuming alcohol. While the girl did have a learner's permit, the permit was considered void because she was driving after curfew.
Both the girl and her brother were taken into police custody and then later released on $3,000 recognizance bond. They are scheduled to appear in court for their arraignment on December 19th.
