Jon Bryant Artz, Attorney At Law

Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, author, lecturer and DUI expert Jon Bryant Artz has specialized in California DUI-DWI for 40 years, and has been called “the best DUI Lawyer in California.”

Mr. Artz graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with both a B.S. in Economics (1968) and a Juris Doctor from UCLA Law School (1971). His legal prowess was immediately evident when, three years after getting his law degree, he secured an historic 7/0 reversal from the California Supreme Court in the very first interpretation of Penal Code §1192.5 (People v. Johnson (1974) 10 Cal 3rd 868).

Mr. Artz has served as a Judge Pro Tempore at Los Angeles County Superior Courts in Malibu, West Los Angeles, and Van Nuys, and has taught law classes on Trial Practice and Evidence as an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University School of Law.

He is one of four Contributing Authors to “California Drunk Driving Law”—the “bible” of California DUI Law, and is popular speaker on California DUI Law and Drunk Driving/Drug Defense. He has lectured at the California DUI Lawyers Association, the California Public Defenders Association, and the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, among other respected legal organizations.

Mr. Artz is one of only two California lawyers whose creative trial strategies have changed the way DUI Defense Law is practiced. He has authored dozens of widely practiced Pre-Trial Motions and Special Jury Instructions (“Artz Motions”) that have become standard practice in CA DUI defense.

Based in West Los Angeles, Mr. Artz offers comprehensive DUI services including DMV advocacy to win back clients’ driver’s licenses. He is well known throughout the California court system, but is especially active in Los Angeles County, San Fernando Valley, the South Bay, Ventura County, Orange County, Inland Empire (Riverside/San Bernardino), Santa Barbara and San Diego.
